Launched in May 2013 the HyperVenom landed as Nike's 'New breed of attack' built for forwards who demanded a closest to barefoot feel as possible. Seven months and seven colourways down the line we take a look at the HyperVenom collection to see how the silo has been perceived visually and performance wise.
The HyperVenom arrived in spectacular style, one of, if not the, most highly anticipated boot releases ever. Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, Neymar and the world's media present, Nike don't do things in half measures, when they go big, they go super-size and the HyperVenom launch was colossal.
The HyperVenom was born in black/citrus and accompanied by a lime/black colourway. The black/citrus drop was the boot that Nike laced their newly formed HyperVenom squad up in; Neymar joined the likes of Higuain, Rooney, Welbeck and Lewandowski in the new silo as the Swoosh aggressively muscled into the boot market.
June saw the arrival of the charcoal/crimson/black HyperVenom, launched as part of Nike's Black Pack, which saw dark colourways land across all silos. For boot traditionalists who wanted to try the HyperVenom technology without sacrificing that classic look the blacked out paint job was the prefect release.
Another Nike boot pack that contained a HyperVenom colour combo was the Hi-Vis range launched in September. The HyperVenom collection had grown to a quartet and this Hi-Vis colourway was the brightest yet, worn by all of Nike's contracted HyperVenom players.
The HyperVenom has persuaded many Mercurial enthusiasts out of the famous Vapor, some through pure curiosity and some through the alternative technology the HyperVenom has to offer. As the collection of HyperVenom colourways grows more and more players will make the switch and that was the case with the launch of the neo lime and Flash Pack releases in December.
Players will often wait until a colourway lands before switching into a boot. No matter how comfortable and innovative a boot they'll always be players, us included, who opt for the best looking boot. The seventh colourway to land on the NikeSkin of the HyperVenom is the blue/black/volt combo, which will lure all professional players away from the neo lime.
Seven months since the release and it's fair to say the HyperVenom has flown out of the blocks, for a silo so young the boot has attracted serious player support, continues to sell out with each release and has a seven strong back catalogue of crisp colourways. Without doubt a success story so far and with Nike eyeing up Brazil 2014, all the foundations have been laid for the HyperVenom be the boot of the World Cup.
